Bikers Gearbox Epic 6hr Endurance. Round 3 No Limits, Donington Park.
Arguably the home of British racing but certainly a favourite for spectators and competitors. The No Limits Endurance series, Bikers Gearbox Epic for ARB Racing took place last weekend with sunny, dry weather and plenty of chance to ruin a set or two of slicks on the ARB Racing GSXR-1000.
Ryan Kinning and Rob (Rab) Lavendar added to the ranks of Andy Booth’s Team Misfits / ARB Racing for the Donington Park round supported by Bikers Gearbox of Matlock.
Rob Lavendar was riding his Triumph 675 and Ryan Kinning was 2nd rider on-board the ARB Racing GSXR-1000. Qualifying was dealt with as Ryan found his feet on the GSXR and helped post the Misfits to a respectable 17th of 41 on the Grid.
The Le Mans style, running start was taken care of by Andy and Rob (Rab) getting the 6 hour Bikers Gearbox Epic underway.
6 hours is a long haul for most and the plan was to split the time neatly into 20 minute sessions. Best laid plans often go with the wind and as the safety car came out after 20 minutes Andy took the opportunity to pit and Ryan held the bars for his first session on the 1000cc Superbike. Within 6 laps Ryan had gained 11 places but the enthusiasm was paid for with tyre rubber and a pit was needed to sort a "chunking" issue, later pinned down to a hard spring overworking the slicks. Some time was lost but Rab put in a solid 25 minutes to even the score and after another 5 hours of swift changes, unexpected changes and fastest laps by Ryan, the flag waved with a finishing spot of 37th.
The tyre issue lost the Misfits time in the end and extra stops to revolve 3 sets of rubber took it’s toll. Great running by all and an awesome lap of 1.41 set by Ryan on the GSXR-1000 boosted the result. Confident they have the suspension issue sorted for the next round, the Misfits will be back to cement on the impressive start they know they can deliver.
Massive thanks to all who helped and of course, Alli Chouhan and all from Bikers Gearbox who came to cheer on the Misfits.
